Shell Harbour - a scarf/wrap knitting pattern

This is a single sided, striped wrap/scarf consisting of a 4ply sock yarn creating the 'shells' of garter stitch using German short rows, and a 2 ply mohair in stockinette.

Each 'shell' is 10 stitches wide, so the number of stitches is any unit (N) of 10, plus two stitches of selvedge each side. Each row of 'shells' is offset by 5 stitches to the 'shell' row below it.

The shells are reminiscent of conch shells with a subtle pain/purl difference on the left hand side due to the short row effect.

The Mohair stripe or 'harbour' is always 4 rows of stockinette, plus two stitches of garter stitch at each end for selvedge

The gauge is not critical, I found making it on 3.5mm needles gave it a more open, drapey texture. 104 stitches in total made a garment about 55cm wide.

Always carry the yarn up the side.
